Securing the Renegade Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus requires players to navigate through a series of late-game challenges before finally confronting this Legendary creature. Unlike standard encounters, securing Giratina requires progressing through main story milestones and completing specific post-game quests. Understanding the necessary prerequisites and battle strategies ensures a smooth path to adding this powerful Ghost and Dragon-type Pokémon to your Hisuian roster.

Unlocking Request 91 and Prerequisites

Before you can attempt to catch Giratina, you must first complete the main campaign and roll the credits. Following the main storyline, you must collect all elemental plates and defeat Volo alongside Giratina in a challenging multi-phase battle atop Mount Coronet. Once this gauntlet is finished, returning to Jubilife Village prompts Professor Laventon to grant Request 91, titled "On the Trail of Giratina".

Finding Giratina in Turnback Cave

With Request 91 active, set your destination to the Cobalt Coastlands region. Navigate toward the northwestern portion of the map near Spring Path to locate the entrance to Turnback Cave. Stepping inside the cave triggers the direct confrontation with Giratina in its Origin Forme.

Battle Tactics and Catching Strategy

Giratina appears at Level 70 and boasts impressive stats alongside a devastating moveset. Because it is a Ghost and Dragon-type, using Dark, Fairy, Ice, or Ghost-type attacks can quickly chip down its health bar. Lower its HP into the red zone and apply status conditions like drowsiness or paralysis to dramatically boost your catch rate before throwing Ultra Balls or Gigaton Balls.

Claiming the Griseous Core and Form Changing

Successfully catching Giratina completes Request 91 and rewards you with the Griseous Core item. This key item allows you to freely swap Giratina between its Origin Forme and Altered Forme whenever you wish. Acquiring Giratina also brings you one step closer to completing your Pokédex and ultimately encountering Arceus.
